An early Mk2 Range Rover

In September 1995, Land Rover replaced the 25-year Range Rover with a new model, which carried on some of the styling cues of the previous model. The Range Rover kept the 4.0 litre V8 from the Range Rover Classic, but gained a few new ones, including the 4.6 litre variant of the V8, and the 2.5 litre 6-cylinder turbocharged diesel engine from BMW.

The Mk2 Range Rover never achieved the following of its predecessor, partially due to its styling, which has (unfairly) been compared to that of the Metrocab taxi. However the 1995 model continued the Range Rover tradition, maintaining its position as Land Rover's flagship model until the Mk3 was launched in 2002.
